There is a national framework of low emission zones in Germany. They affect all motor vehicles except motorcycles. A number of cities also have transit bans on heavy duty vehicle through-traffic.
There are also some cities (Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Darmstadt) that have a zonal driving ban (also called incorrectly Dieselfahrverbot = diesel driving ban) in place. More cities might follow.

The low emission zones national framework means that only the things that vary by city are: location, emissions standard (or sticker) and timings. For the transit bans the exact definition of vehicle varies, but all transit bans are for heavy duty vehicles only.

The required sticker can be ordered online from every country either here or there.
